Vicki Davis is a teacher in Georgia. She writes several education-based blogs including Cool Cat Teacher. This post from last week summarizes some recent projects her classes have undertaken using wiki and blogging tools. If you are a teacher looking for some good insight into how to introduce some of these tools into your classes, Vicki is a great resource. Here's a sampling of what she's done with wikis (or should I say her students have done):
- My ninth graders used wikis to review for their test on Microsoft Excel.
- Ninth graders continue to update their study hall. (Homework for the week.)
- Some of my kids continue to enjoy working on their riddles project.
I love the optical illusions and the jokes are hilarious. These three boys have scoured the Internet and found some great riddles and mind benders. You may want to use some with your students.
I'm looking forward to hearing how she makes out with this next goal:
My students and I are starting a new online newspaper next week using a collaborative blog model to feed our school web page. I'll let you know how it goes!
Thanks for keeping up with my students and for having such a great wiki resource page!
We're actually using typepad for the newspaper and integrating it with the school website. Our (http://www.westwoodschools.org) home page feeds off a (http://westwoodschools.blogspot.com) blog at blogger.com that the school secretary updates.
We're using wordpress for the student newspaper because of its ability to use categories.
It is very exciting! Wikis are still the best tool for reviews, collaboration, and projects.
There is also a great new Wiki out called (http://coolcatteacher.blogspot.com/2006/02/head-on-down-to-wikiville.html) Wikiville for students around the world to share how life is in their hometown. It is going to be a great place, I predict.
Thanks for the updates.
